    Differentiation part 1

What may not be obvious to initial observation is that the island’s populatioin cosists of two basic groups. The Elysians who have travelled from Earth and the Entropians who are natives of this new Universe in which we find ourselves. At some point these destinctions have been incorporated into the local language, infulenced it would seem by someone with a deep grounding in the genre of fantasy literature. At least in some quarters the well established Entropians have become known as Ents, while the more recenlty arrived Elysians are known as Elves. More recenlty there is evidence of the inroduction of further sub-defenitions – Calypsians being know as CallyEnts, Arkadians as ArkEnts and perversley diverging from this structure, Rocktropians as Trolls.

    Differentiation part 2

Apart from the linguistic differention covered in part 1, there has been an introduction of differentiation within the group of Elysians, notably between first wavers and second wavers. This has taken the form of greetings and started as more of a gesture difference than a linguistic one. At some point second wavers began greeting others by waving twice, while first wavers still only wave once. This difference has moved beyond merely gesture, and entered into the language, where the terms single wave and double wave were first shortened to s-wave and d-wave, and finally shortened further to save and dave, as in ‘I saw her across the room and she saved me, so I gave her a dave back.”
